Darkness.
Suddenly, he realised he was swallowing water, his body trying desperately to gasp for air. Jabel struggled weakly, trying to break the surface, but he was already too deprived of air. suddenly, a corner in the canal slammed him against the side, forcing him up. As he tried to breath and expel the water, a pair of rough hands grabbed hold of his tunic, trying to hold him above the rushing waters. Jabel could only hear indistinctive whisperings as he felt himself being hoisted roughly out of the waters, the sharp edges of the walls of the canal digging into his back. He convulsed again as his body threw out more water and the darkness claimed him again.
